Open Windows Explorer in a specific location
By default Windows Explorer might open displaying one of a number of possible locations, depending on the version of Windows. Here's how to make Explorer open in the same specified location every time.
On the Start menu, go to All Programs | Accessories | Windows Explorer and then drag it to the desktop whilst also holding down the CTRL key. This creates the option to Copy the shortcut to the desktop instead of Moving it (screenshot).
Next right click on the copied desktop shortcut and select Properties (screenshot).
In the Windows Explorer Properties box, Shortcut Tab, add the /n,/e, switches followed by the desired directory to open (screenshot). In this example I have added /n,/e,C: which will open Explorer at the root of the C: drive.
Adding the switches /n,/e,D:\Download would open Explorer into the D:\Download directory every time. Note there are no spaces between the characters.
Finally I like to drag the desktop shortcut and 'pin' it to the taskbar (screenshot) for a quick click.
Note that this tip is backwards compatible as far as Windows 98..
